This is a brief and consolidated history of all of the major updates and noteworthy changes to the project since its creation (through January 2010).
Two personal projects, Pete's MetaData Info Fetcher and TV Torrent Demander are merged and the result is designed with the Windows Media Center for Windows 7 theme in mind. Media Center Master is born and out of several developer releases, version 1.04 becomes the first publically available version featuring: precision title matching, poster/backdrop image downloading, forcible titles and ID's (through metadata), cast & crew thumbnail downloading, automatic folder renaming, blend of fetcher metadata (IMDB+tMDB mix), dual-pass fetching, automatic update, automatic scan & fetch of scan folders, and adult titles. This version did not support television series or episodes.
In the next thirty days, the following features are added: television series & episodes, confirmation prompts, media organizer and meta-data editor, trailer downloading & tools, torrent downloader (a feature that was originally included but had to be enabled manually by editing settings in the configuration file), fetcher plugin system (source code is even made available for sample fetchers), poster/backdrop/banner art selection prompts, and automatic download processing features. The month ends at version 1.12.
Version 1.13 is released with support for raw DVD structure format (with VIDEO_TS folders). Settings are moved from the application install directory to the Windows system registry to help make the application less dependent on being run as an Administrator. Support for alternate episode ID's (AAA format) is added, which are used largely with animé series.
Version 1.14 is released with minor updates.
Development slows considerably while I purchase a house and move. It takes me a while to fully bounce back into the swing of things again. Eventually, version 1.15 is released with minor updates and the ability to automatically log-to-file the scrolling, on-screen text from the main window.
Support for the default, built-in movie/video library in Windows Media Center without MediaBrowser was added to version 1.15. A history window detailing movies and T.V. downloaded (or in the library) was added with a number of individual management options (right-click menu). The TVRage T.V. metadata source is added.
Version 1.16 is released mid-month with the ability to automatically download subtitles. T.V. episode files with multiple episodes are also now supported.
There are some auto-update releases, including version 1.17 (for which an installer was never made). These updates were rolled into 1.18, released in the following month.
Following a brief development break around my birthday, version 1.18 is released mid-month with a redesigned media list on the main window that allows grouping and sorting by column, among other various enhancements. All of the menus, including right-click menus, are redesigned and reordered to be more logical and helpful. Icons are added to most of the options and some are renamed or removed. Hotkeys are also added to the major utilities. Mininova.org is introduced as an additional/optional torrent source. A new option is added that allows you to automatically and/or manually generate a report for new media, both for movies and T.V. episodes at a regular interval to know at a glance what's been added to your library recently. uTorrent integration was also added, including a uTorrent manager that lets you manage torrents and allows MCM to automatically remove seeding/finished torrents from the list once it has finished downloading new episodes/movies.
There are some auto-update releases, but no installer is published due to the my availability around the holidays. The movie metadata fetcher Amazon.com is released (third-party plugin, by Ashley Flynn) and the adult metadata fetcher cdUniverse is released (official plugin, by Peter Souza). T.V. series get a new screen, accessed by a chevron button on the main window that allows drill-down to episode data and a few right-click options. The main preferences/settings window is re-designed and several new options are added to satisfy feature requests from the forums. Multiple backdrop support (latest versions of MediaBrowser) is added. The movie confirmation prompt is now more useful, displaying all results at once and even allowing the user to override detection with a box to input an IMDB title ID. Additional information is added to the media list on the main window when the chevron for T.V. series is expanded. More relaxed search options for both movies and T.V. episodes are added.
Documentation and reference in the form of a wiki begins construction, but is not linked publicly yet (only mentioned in a few forum threads).
Version 1.19 is released with a significant number of additional features, including the IMDB T.V. metadata source, post-processing movie and adult titles, additional information for episodes (including writer, director, DVD information, etc.), auto-import of IMDB from .NFO and .TXT files, and support for drive roots as scan folders.
