Can you zip up and attach the crash file referenced in the XML? It's the line with C:\Users\ etc.

Hi Pete

I opened the .WER file referenced in the XML, and this is what it shows. Hope it helps.

Thanks!

I had one machine that the stublauncher failed after update but was able to manually launch MCM fine afterwards.

To those having problems, what happens if you just double-click MediaCenterMaster.exe manually?

It should be found in:

Code:
%AppData%\Peter Souza IV\Media Center Master\bin

Yes launching the MediaCenterMaster.exe manually works without issue for me.

Hello

I just registered, to add to this discussion.

Yes, I think the issue is with the launcher itself. Running the application directly starts fine.

I tried the combination of the old AutoUpdate.dll and the new MCMStubLauncher.exe, and the problem was still there.
I tried the combination of the new AutoUpdate.dll and the old MCMStubLauncher.exe, and the problem was not present.

Regards,
Eric

Good find, restoring old stublauncher works for me also. Not sure how it affects MCM overall.

Works MCMStubLauncher.exe version: 2.12.23514.782
Doesn't work MCMStubLauncher.exe version: 2.14.32215.810

That stub launcher and autoupdate.dll were from over a year ago -- they haven't been touched in 2017.

I have compared the launcher bundled in 2.16.4517.861 and in 2.16.10917.574

2.16.4517.861 (prior version) MCMStubLauncher.exe
- 14 Feb 2017
- 446,976 bytes

2.16.10917.574 (latest version) MCMStubLauncher.exe
- 19 Apr 2017
- 448,000 bytes

- Both reports version 2.14.32215.810
- Both seem to be obfuscated similarly, but give completely different obfuscated code (probably just because the obfuscation used a different seed), so I can't really check what's different codewize between the two. However, one difference is in the assembly used. The old one uses assembly "SuppressIldasm", while the new one does not.

One thing for sure, even if the source code of the launcher did not change, the launcher was recompiled during the build/packaging process (which is most probably correct!), but somehow the latest build did recompile with a different setting for the launcher.

I don't know if this can help. ;)

As to answer to doug2h, I guess that with the version strings, and Pete's comment, we can safely assume that using the older of the 2 versions of the launcher should not make a difference for (should not affect) the update process itself. As for the difference between 2.12.23514.782 and 2.14.32215.810, I could not tell (should refer to the changelog).

Regards,
Eric

Auto update appears to never touch the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Media Center Master" folder as I have multiple machines with really old stublauncher and autoupdate.dll file.

Only the installer updates these files. Just like if I used the oldest installer on the forum that is what stublauncher and autoupdate.dll file I would have in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Media Center Master".
