I've been trying to troubleshoot an issue where the video information is not being detected properly for some of my movies, and ran into a really odd situation.

Back-story:
While following another thread about someone else experiencing a similar issue (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6945), I found a link to download ffmpeg.exe directly. Thinking maybe that was the problem, I replaced the existing ffmpeg with the downloaded one and relaunched MCM. MCM immediately updated ffmpeg to the latest version, which I thought was slick.
When running the "Test Video Inspection Details" in the Troubleshooter against a movie that didn't detect, it came back with only the below contents:
Code:
Video file inspection:
Y:\Movies\Blindness (2008)\Blindness.mkv

Raw XML result from VidInfo utility:

Final details:
... video quality:
... video dimensions: 0x0
...... aspect:  ()
... video bitrate: 0 kbps
... video framerate:
... video type:  ()
... video codec (friendly):
... video duration:  (0 minutes)
... video scan type:
... audio stream channels: .0
... audio stream bitrate: 0 kbps
... audio stream frequency:
... audio stream codec:  ()
... subtitle stream: false

Thinking maybe my VidInfo.exe was corrupted, I decided to rename my VidInfo.exe and restart MCM.

That's where the weirdness comes in, MCM downloaded VidInfo.exe to replace the one I'd renamed, but it's a different size.
Version: 2.15.25315.814

Now, when I run the video detect, I get an actual error alongside:
Code:
Video file inspection:
\\MEDIASERVER\multimedia\Movies\Blindness (2008)\Blindness.mkv

Raw XML result from VidInfo utility:

Final details:
... video quality:
... video dimensions: 0x0
...... aspect:  ()
... video bitrate: 0 kbps
... video framerate:
... video type:  ()
... video codec (friendly):
... video duration:  (0 minutes)
... video scan type:
... audio stream channels: .0
... audio stream bitrate: 0 kbps
... audio stream frequency:
... audio stream codec:  ()
... subtitle stream: false
............ error: exception thrown by the .Net framework
............ (Media Center Master's MediaCenterMaster.VideoInfo() threw an exception)
............ (exception thrown: System.Exception, Video is not valid:  MediaInfo and FFMPEG both failed via VidInfo.exe utility.)

The 'alternate' VidInfo app still parses other videos fine though.

I did a diff between the two executables, it looks like maybe the larger version is a debug version? the PE Header shows "Line numbers stripped, Local symbols stripped, Handles 32 bit words, Executable" (italicized info is not in the smaller version).

Not sure what (if anything) you want to do with that info. I'm still stuck with not being able to parse video details on some movies even though they still play. Any tools out there that can find/clean that stuff?
