First of all, I am loving MCM and overall, it works great with Plex. However, there are issues with MCM, Plex and subtitles.

I have MCM set up to download movies automatically, but subtitles are not downloaded automatically. Plex has MCM as its metadata agent. Now whenever I have MCM fetch subtitles manually, if Plex has already scanned the movie then it will not show subtitles as an option. Even after refreshing the plex library, subtitles do not show up.

If subtitles were downloaded automatically after the download parser creates metadata and before plex scans the folder, then this would not be a problem (how can we have subs auto download?). Or perhaps this is an issue with the MCM Plex agent not recognizing subtitles?

Looking forward to your reply, thanks

Part of the problem is with Plex, and you will need to contact them for support with that.

The other problem is that you have not enabled automatic subtitle downloading, which can be done in Application -> Settings & Preferences -> Metadata -> Download subtitles from Subscene.com. This is the option for automatic subtitle downloads after a fetch.

Hi,

Great product! Love the ease of use. Just to throw this out there...

The problem is... Plex scrapes the existence of subtitles using the Personal Media assets agent. There is no way for us to use this agent if we are using the MCM agent. Plex does not list the Personal Media Assets agent in the MCM group. It is listed in every other agent group, except MCM.

Hello friends,
This is my first post in the forums...

I've struggled allot with subtitles using MCM and Plex, and I did find some useful information... From the Plex side, Plex states that to use local subtitles they have to be on the same folder as the movie, follow the naming rules and the "Local Media Assets" has to be first in the list of the scanner that you use.
On the MCM there is no "Local Media Assets" to use with the MCM agent.

On the same time I've found a few threats on the internet about NFO importer from XBMC, and in one of those I've learned that there is a option to add to the agent to use the "Local Media Assets" so you can have the cake an eat too ;-)

I've located the file " __init__.py " in
AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\MediaCenterMaster.bundle\Contents\Code

and I've edited to add this line:

accepts_from = ['com.plexapp.agents.localmedia']

I've added under Movies and TV

class MediaCenterMaster(Agent.Movies):
name = 'Media Center Master'
primary_provider = True
languages = [ Locale.Language.English ]
accepts_from = ['com.plexapp.agents.localmedia']

class MediaCenterMaster(Agent.TV_Shows):
name = 'Media Center Master'
primary_provider = True
languages = [ Locale.Language.English ]
accepts_from = ['com.plexapp.agents.localmedia']

After I've restarted the Plex Media Server, on the agent settings I've find the change
that under the MCM agent there is the option to use the "Local Media Assets"
so I've moved to first ( as its also needed ) in the list, for movies and TV
to speed things, I've removed the movies and TV from Plex and added again.

Happy to say that this worked like a charm !

During the struggle, I've noticed that the movie.xml file has a tag
<VideoHasSubtitles>False</VideoHasSubtitles>
I believe that when MCM indexed the movie, it did not have subtitles.
I've got all my subtitles later...
I've refreshed the movie in the MCM and I cannot get this key to change...
I do not know if this has connections to anything, I just find odd...

Since the topic is subtitles + Plex...

I like to point that Plex does not like the language code using two digits, like EN or PB
Since I've use Filebot to get my subtitles, the English ones are ENG, but the Portuguese are just PB, It would be nice if MCM could rename to POR ;-)
If not named like this, Plex displays the subtitle as unknown :-(

I've created a PowerShell script to do this for now and set for post processing in MCM

dir -Filter *pb.srt -Recurse | Rename-Item –NewName { $_.name –replace “.pb.srt“,”.por.srt” }

As I mentioned Filebot...
It would be very nice to have some integration from MCM to Filebot...
I'll be requesting the feature, just noted here so anyone reading can add to-it...

After all this steps, my MCM + Plex combo is AWESOME
subtitles and all

Hope this info helps,
Thanks Pete for MCM, I've got lifetime !

Regards,
Jethro Morais

Great work on the additions to the Media Center Master Plex scraper -- I'll have to merge your changes soon.

You misunderstand the XML tag "VideoHasSubtitles", though. This tag is only used by Media Center Master internally and represents if the video itself carries a subtitle stream in the video container (TEXT streams in an MKV for example). The addition of external subtitle files (.srt, .sub, etc.) is unrelated to this field and this field should not be modified externally.

Media Center Master doesn't yet understand or work with subtitle files containing language codes at the end of the file name. It will in a later version. :)

Glad to hear that I've helped the Media Center Master be better.
And thanks for explaining about the movie.xml Pete ;-)

Subtitles with three letter language codes and multiple subtitle files are now supported natively in Media Center Master, so you don't need to use this script to adapt subtitle files anymore.

hmm I still have som problems with subtitles when running the original plugin.
I have deleted my old subs and download again with three letters.

I use custom path in plex for the plugins, The MCM Plex scanner seems to install in the orignal Directory, but I have moved the files manually. Could this be the problem?

Greetings and salutation's friends!

I’ve setup a new PC for the MCM and Plex and I just realized what the problem is exactly.
Without my modifications the MCM agent does not inform plex that the media has subtitles.
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue.
Install Plex
Install MCM and MCM Plex agent
Add a library and set the MCM agent as the default provider (as it should be done)
As Plex index that library, even thou the movies have the srt files, Plex does not list any subtitles.
Modify the __init__.py (according to my previous post) restart plex
Remove and add the library again (refresh or update the library does not fix the problem)
The movies now have subtitles !
The script part is no longer necessary as you pointed Pete, thanks for that ;-)
I’m still waiting MCM subtitles to support for Brazilian Portuguese ;-)
But I still believe that the additions to the MCM agent should be added permanently.
