From a old topic, updated spoiler links. Pete wrote: That means the download isn't completing successfully. You may need to disable your virus protection or any other security software that is interfering with the download. You may also download the file manually from:

i was having the same issue w/ ffmpeg and ffprobe.
i downloaded via the link above and performed an md5check on both files and both match the ffmpeg.20180320.exe and ffprobe.20180320.exe that were auto downloaded via my mcm. i also manually ran each binary and verified they appear to be fine. i run windows defender, i've always had mcm's directory excluded.
my current files in the bin directory: ffmpeg.exe is from ~2013. ffmpeg.20171213.exe ffmpeg.20180320.exe ffprobe.20180320.exe
on restart of mcm it attempts to update ffmpeg and ffprobe. it first renames ffmpeg.exe(2013 dated one) to ffmpeg_old.exe, it then downloads ffmpeg.20180320.exe. after that, it renames ffmpeg_old.exe back to ffmpeg.exe(2013 dated one) it then proceeds to download ffprobe.20180320.exe and doesn't rename it. this happens with every restart.
to fix: I deleted the old ffmpeg.exe, and old ffmpeg.20171212.exe. i then renamed ffmpeg.20180320.exe and ffprobe.20180320.exe to ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe - no longer seems to bug me with updates.
i turned on autoupdate logging, as well as debugging, but it doesn't give much info on the processing of update files. i don't believe this is a result of the file not completing successfully per my md5check and validation of the preexisting files.
