Problem started for me as well following updates. Adding the Win10 firewall exceptions as noted above and restarting MCM worked for me today. Didn't need to reboot machine Some messages in thread indicates the solution may not "stick." I'll report back if the problem re-occurs.

Problem returned. Going to try the full install that Pete suggested and report back.

The full install that Pete suggested does fix the problem!

So, I completed the full install as intended and until a few moments ago thought the issue was resolved as I had not seen the pop-up since.

I did seem to have a peculiar issue at MCM launch time where the the application would appear to have some functions disabled under "Tools" (for example Tools/Process New Downloads).

I can resolve it by going to Help/Licensing/Done

Following the most recent instance I checked the AutoUpdate.log and while I am no longer getting intermittent pop-up messages that AutouUpdate is failing, the logs are showing that AutoUpdate is generating frequent errors at launch.

The exception prior to the Full Install:
[EXCEPTION] System.UriFormatException
[MESSAGE] Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined.

The exception following the Full Install:
[EXCEPTION] System.IndexOutOfRangeException
[MESSAGE] Index was outside the bounds of the array.

Make sure you submit support information next time so we can validate versioning information.

Are you proxied (either locally on your system or your network via work or school campus) that may be altering destination URIs?

Regarding the update problem: I had the exact same error message on startup for a few weeks now.

I read Peter's request for the Auto Update log, clicked "about" the log was already checked, below that was "clear all the internal cache" so I thought what the heck and I cleared it.

Restarted the app and all was fine. Give it a try. Problem solved for me.

Regards
Robert

PS: The comments about further development not occurring is bologna. I am a very satisfied customer now for several years, you should dream that Microsoft would give you the kind of attention that Mr. Souza gives us.

Help -> Debug... -> Clear all internal caches

Did the trick for me as well.

Thanks @TeeRodFl!!
Also agree that Pete is way better than the MS support I've experienced!

Is anyone else still seeing this?
Clear all internal caches fixes the problem, but only for the next restart it appears:

I only run on demand. Not using it for feeds/downloads, so see no point in keeping it running.
