In this guide you should get the basic details for setting up MCM and µTorrent to self manage your downloads. In it we will use valid, but sample, directory structures. Change them where applicable for your own network configuration.

This guide was written for the current version of MCM [1.30.15411.1123] and µTorrent [2.2.1], but should work with any future versions of MCM. This guide also assumes you have a both MCM and µTorrent installed on the same machine [localhost] and have a Trial License or Premium Licence [required for the µTorrent integration].

First setup the folders on your computer/network to match the basic structure outlined in the image below. This will allow MCM to correctly manage downloading torrents, passing them to µTorrent, removing them from the download queue and then parsing those download files. Having the completed downloads within their own sub-folder will allow MCM to only process completed downloads, thus avoiding any incomplete or in use files.

\\file path\torrents
\\file path\torrents\completed.

  • Put new downloads in: Is the folder that all new incomplete downloads are placed in while µTorrent is download them.
  • Move completed downloads to: Is the folder that all completed downloads are moved too.
  • Automatically load .torrents from: Is the folder µTorrent will look for new torrents in and automatically load them to start downloading. This is where you'll get MCM to drop any new torrents too*1.

*1In an advanced setup you can setup multiple target torrent folders for MCM to dump TV and all other torrents into. Which would allow you to run more than one instance of µTorrent to have different settings. This more advanced configuration will not be covered in detail in this guide.

Next step is to configure µTorrent's Web UI to allow MCM to manage the seeding and removal of torrents automatically. This is done via the Web UI section.

Enable the Web UI option and then define a Username and Password. Making sure to remember this details for later use in MCM.

Image

Next step is adjust the webui.token_auth setting via Advanced section to false.

Image

Now press OK and you're done with the initial settings for µTorrent.

Now open up MCM and Settings & Preferences [ctrl+shift+s]
Image

Access the Downloader tab and set the Save T.V. torrent files to: & Save other torrent files to:*1 paths to the same directory you had defined in µTorrent for Automatically load .torrents from:. Be sure to no have Auto-start downloaded torrents select. As you will have µTorrent already configured to load any valid .torrent files from that source folder.

Define other settings as per user preferences.

Image

Now access the Download Parser tab and set the Completed downloads scanned from this folder (watch folder): to the same directory you had defined in µTorrent for Move completed downloads to:. This will allow MCM to only process completed finalized downloads.

Enable Automatically detect new video files here and process them and I recommend auto-rename, auto-move & auto-fetch meta data settings be enabled too.

Define other settings as per user preferences.

Image

Now access the µTorrent tab and input the Username & Password you defined in µTorrent Web UI settings. Check to see if WebUP I.P or hostname is localhost and port is as was defined in µTorrent. Next enable Turn on µTorrent integration features, this will allow MCM to manage various torrents as per your settings.

Automatically clear seeding and finish torrents will allow MCM to automatically remove torrents from µTorrent as per your defined time interval set via the General tab.

Define other settings as per user preferences.

Image

Now access the General tab and define the time intervals for various features of MCM. I would recommend for use µTorrent intergration every time frame to be at least 1/2 the time you've set for run download parser every. This will allow, if set, MCM to remove any currently seeded torrents from µTorrent and allow MCM to avoid any file in use issue when parsing any completed torrents.

Define other settings as per user preferences.

Image

If you have set the download parser to auto-rename downloads, then move to the Renaming tab and define how you would like MCM to handle renaming your file, folders and other settings related to renaming.

Image

Good luck and now via these minimum settings you should have a MCM & µTorrent combination that will allow it to run almost autonomously. Throughout the guide there were various tabs that had additional settings and preferences, which should be set to personal preferences.
