As the title says, how about a port to Linux? I really want to run my file server on Linux for stability issues, but my favorite programs for my video organization seem to be Windows based. Any thoughts?

How about virtualizing a Windows installation for the software you like that's built on Windows technologies?

I can do that, just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

We can't port this to Mono because it has too many dependencies that aren't portable. It'd require full rewrites and more resources than I have by myself.

That's completely understandable.

Just info for anyone else seeing this topic:

I use Linux based servers for file & media storage (Centos plus iSCSI arrays).

MCM does not need to run on the server - I use it on a Windows 7 media center PC and on an XP based desktop, whichever is more convenient at the time.

As long as it can access the appropriate media directories by some means, such as Samba shared paths or mapped drives, it works great!

I had MCM running on my Media Center PC, but it was lagging the box. My Media Center is only an Atom 330 box so it's not a screaming performer, just enough to run what I need it to. Had I thought a bit more ahead I would have built the box with more processing prowess, but hind sight is 20/20.
I wanted to run my Media Center on Linux, but alas, no Netflix support for Lin.
