Why oh why can't these two groups decide on a uniform method for numbering episodes? You would think it would be in both there interests (community based data sites anyway) to cooperate. I'm scared to even post the question on some sites as they are not very friendly to anyone outside the clique. I'd be interested if anyone can give me some insight into why there is no uniformity? Is it just that whoever takes on the thankless job gets the last say?

thetvdb.com adamantly requires episodes to be numbered as they appear from their production company's website, even if they are listed differently at other sites, such as IMDb.com.

The scene release groups do -- well -- whatever they want, I suppose. You'd have to ask them, and as you've mentioned: they're not the most receptive when it comes to constructive criticism.

There's a work-around in development:

I applaud theTVDB.com for being consistent at least. Unfortunately, many scene release teams determine series by other means such as order aired which totally makes sense if you release a weekly show. It's when shows change their names from season to season (like a certain gladiator series and the Australian Gruen Planet/Transfer/Nation/Sweat etc) where it becomes unbearable. I guess everyone does what makes sense to them which of course just means MCM can't do everything accurately. Just a rant. Happy to see you constantly trying to address all the anomalies. I'll keep an eye out for your episode mapping development.
