I'm been using newhosting.com but I can't seem to get anything to download recently.

Any advice on better usenet?

With the exception of a few DMCA takedowns at pretty much all usenet providers, I don't have any issues with finding stuff at NewsHosting.com here however both AstraWeb and Giganews are very popular choices if you're looking to shop around.

But with DMCA takedowns doesn't it effect all usenet servers? I'm with Usenetserver and most of the stuff on there now is password protected or no such article

Nope, it depends a lot on the takedown policies of the usenet provider. A lot of them (especially ones with foreign-hosted servers) take a while to respond to requests. A few don't respond at all.

AstraWeb's European servers often keep files that have been DMCA'd on their US servers for a few days longer, for example. Other servers have been known to take weeks... plenty of time to grab new shows and still far safer than torrenting. As it stands, there are still not too many shows or movies that are DMCA'd heavily -- only the exceptionally popular (I'd estimate under 1% in my observations).

I use Sickbeard and Supernews is my usenet provider.

In terms of the password protected files. It entirely depends on your usenet search provider.

You see for me Sickbeard is configured with several search proivders. if a provider starts giving me password protected files, I move to a different search provider. In that huge database there are files that are NOT password protected. Some search providers have a way of filtering out these password protected files and return results that only provide you with files.

You see its the search providers that the US Govt is taking down. With out a search provider, the use net in terms of binary files is useless. Its better to go torrent at that point. Most search providers have gone private or by invitation only. You can still find a decent search provider if you look hard enough

I'm with usenetserver as well and I don't have those issues since I've changed index sites. You could add filters for the files that have passwords, but that didn't help me none.

The MCM Indexer usenet index tests all downloads for passwords and won't index anything in movies or TV that have passwords.
